Foto Pertama "Mikroskop" Matahari

Badan Penerbangan dan Antariksa Amerika Serikat (NASA) memublikasikan sejumlah foto yang diabadikan sebuah satelit yang mampu memprakirakan gangguan badai matahari. Para ahli NASA menyatakan, foto itu memberikan informasi terbaru tentang gangguan badai matahari.

Para ahli menunjukkan sejumlah foto badai matahari berwarna yang tajam dan sebuah video pendek badai matahari. Foto dan video itu ditangkap jaringan Solar Dynamics Observatory NASA, Rabu (21/4/2010). Satelit itu adalah satelit yang diluncurkan 11 Februari lalu.

Pemimpin tim peneliti, Dean Pesnell, menjelaskan, foto dan video yang diabadikan satelit itu telah mematahkan sedikitnya satu dari berbagai teori tentang gangguan akibat badai matahari. Namun, Pesnell tidak merinci teori apa yang terbantahkan.

Menurut Direktur Divisi Fisika Matahari NASA Richard Fisher, satelit itu bekerja dengan baik. Satelit itu membawa tiga paket instrumen, satu paket dibuat Laboratorium Atmosfer dan Fisika Luar Angkasa University of Colorado. Dua instrumen lain dibuat Lockheed Martin di Palo Alto, California.
